At the behest of the Greek mythology and according to the belief of the oldest authors of this culture, the muses were goddesses who triggered the inspiration of the music and they also did the same but presiding over the sciences and other arts.

Regarding the origins of these goddesses there are various proposals, some point out that they were daughters of the god of the gods, the great Zeus, and the goddess of memory Mnemosyne.
Those who hold this theory also say that they were born in Pieria, at the foot of one of the most outstanding mountains such as the of Olympus.
Meanwhile, there are other positions that base their origin on Uranus, god of the sky, and Gaia, goddess of the earth.
Nine Greek muses and their functions

Among their most common activities were those of interpreting songs at the meal of the gods and at funerals they were in charge of singing laments.
