Informally known as the King of the jungle Due to its size and magnificence, the lion is one of the four big cats that inhabit the planet together with the tiger, the leopard and the jaguar. The lion is a mammal which belongs to genderPanthera and its scientific name is Panthera leo. The lion is currently located in reduced territories of Africa and the Arabian peninsula, although the space occupied today by this feline is remarkably smaller than the it occupied in other times, when its power extended over almost the entire African surface and Arabic. Today, the lion is considered a vulnerable animal according to the parameters of conservation, which means that its preservation is in risk.
In physical terms, the lion is one of the largest cats on the planet. Its body is rectangular, with thick and very strong legs. Its head is also of an important size although it does not protrude from the total body. The mane of the male lion is undoubtedly one of the traits
distinctive (being the only feline that owns it) and that gives it an especially magical and frightening bearing. Lionesses, meanwhile, do not have a mane and are easily distinguishable. One of the most important elements of the lion is its jaw and teeth, largely responsible for its strength when hunting: the teeth of a lion they can reach up to eight centimeters in length in its visible part. The lion is an animal that lives in packs, although on many occasions male lions prefer to spend part of their time alone. Lions are quite passive as they rest most of the day. The lionesses are the ones who are in charge of the activity not only with regard to the raising and care of the cubs but also in terms of the hunting, which is usually done by several lionesses together who establish intelligent strategies to proceed.
Although lions are not extremely fertile animals like other mammals, they usually reproduce several times a year, with the possibility of having several young at that time. The gestation of the cubs takes a little over a hundred days and between one and four pups can be born at a time.
