In the world there are two continents that are geographically united, Europe and Asia. This circumstance has made that sometimes a single term is used to refer to this great continental mass, Eurasia.
Interesting facts about Eurasia
- This area of ββthe planet is made up of a total of 91 countries, which constitutes practically half of the world total (in 2017 there are 194 countries).
- If we take into account that in the world there are about 7,500 million inhabitants according to 2010 data, in Eurasia there are more than two thirds of the total (4,500 million in Asia and 1,100 in Europe).
- With respect to the surface, the continent Asian and European total approximately 54 million square kilometers and America, Africa and Oceania together total 81 million square kilometers.
- The Ural Mountains have been considered since the XVl century as the natural borders between the two continents.
Europe and Asia are two different continents for cultural reasons

civilization Western and in Asia there have been different Eastern civilizations (the Mongol Empire, the Persian Empire, the Chinese dynasties, etc.).From a religious point of view, Europe is predominantly Christian and in Asia Christianity is a minority in comparison with Buddhism or the Muslim religion. In relation to languages, Latin is the language It is native to some European languages ββ(French, Spanish, Italian, Catalan, Romanian, etc.), while in Asia Arabic, Chinese in its different variants and Hindi are the majority languages.
From a racial perspective, in Europe the Caucasian ethnic group is the majority, while in Asia the situation is much more complex (most Asian states have a population multiethnic).
The city of Istanbul is the bridge between Europe and Asia
The Turkish city of Istanbul has a part in Asia and another in Europe. This is because both parts are divided by a water channel, the Bosphorus Strait. To the margin of this geographical feature, the city of Istanbul is a symbol of the mixture cultural between east and west.
Istanbul, the former Constantinople, was the capital of the Roman empire of the East and, on the other hand, the capital of Byzantium and the Ottoman Empire.
We must remember that the fall of Constantinople in 1453 is considered as the episode that delimits the transit of the Middle Ages to the Modern Age.
