It is understood by era that long and extensive period of time that can be described and more or less delimited according to certain main or distinctive characteristics. In general, the term of era is applied to very long historical stages, prior to the appearance of human beings on Earth, although it can also be used in this case.
Whenever it is used, the term era supposes a chronological ordering, that is, based on the order and the temporal succession of events. Thus, the eras take place in an orderly manner and linear, and its divisions can be delimited or marked based on the presence or absence of certain elements, characteristics or parameters. Thus, one of the most common ways in which the notion of era is used is that of the you were geological. These are extensive and very durable time stages of planet Earth, in each of which we find traits distinctive and particular. Among the geological eras we can mention those of the Hadean, of the Archaic, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic, the latter reaching up to the
present. These eras are divided into millions of years. However, although it is not very common, the word era can also be used to define historical periods of lesser temporal extension that are characterized by certain elements. Thus, for example, we can find the Ice Age, the era of certain King or monarch (the Elizabethan, Georgian era, etc.), the era of certain civilization (such as the Egyptian or Roman era), the era of certain advances or widespread changes.
It is important then to remember that, regardless of the contents that the delimitation has, this will always be the information or data set that will be used to delimit that era and differentiate it from both previous and subsequent ones, whether these have occurred or not.
