Maps are a widely used tool in the investigation, location and in the study because they offer us a geographical representation of the planet earth projected on a flat surface. Meanwhile, the concept of geological refers to everything related or proper to geology. Geology is the science par excellence that deals with the study of the earth, its origin, its Constitution and the materials that compose it inside and out.
And geological maps, then, bring us a detailed representation of all the geological features present on the earth's surface, such is the case of the types of rocks present, geological formations, deformations of geological structures such as: foliations, faults and folds, among others.
Likewise, as with other types of maps, it is the symbols and colors, the use of different chromatic types that allow each accident in particular to be singled out. Then, the references will identify what each color used represents.
Main uses
It is important to note that although geological maps were developed by geologists to assist their research activities, over time they have been erected in fundamental tools in various fields such as those of the exploitation of hydrocarbons, such as oil and gas, also in the exploration of minerals, in the location of new
resources underground hydrological. They are also used at the behest of design and planning of works of communication such as railroad tracks or highways, and are fundamental today in the study of natural resources available on a plot of land to anticipate issues such as its permeability or the possibility of flooding.
The tremendous utility that these maps have and that we have just raised demands absolute rigor and knowledge at the time of their elaboration. That is, suitable professionals must take care of its production because it is necessary to know information and know how to identify faults, problems with the soil, factors climatic, degrees of contamination environmental, among others, all issues that affect its formation.
