The word mast is the term we use to refer to that long and thin stick that is used especially to hold something: a flag, the strings on the musical instruments of wind, the tents and tents, the sails of the boats, among the most recurrent questions that they usually hold.
In public buildings and schools is where we can usually watch the flag to be waved from a pole, even, every time it is necessary to raise the flag, it is slides down or up, as appropriate, the neck, for which it has strings that allow the realization of that movement.
In the case of boats, there may be a single mast or more than one supporting the sails of the boat, this will depend exclusively on the wingspan of the maritime vessel. Until the last century the masts were made of wood and were built from the same tree trunk, although, the building of larger ships implied the need for larger masts and various logs began to be assembled.
Ships with three-masted masts, bow to stern, are designated as follows:
ratchet, which is the first mast in the bow; higher, is the highest stick, located in the center; Y mizzen, it is the one that is located closest to the stern. At the behest of the wind instruments, the neck will be the stick on which the strings are seated and when pressed, the variety of tones is produced.
And in the tents or tents, they call mast to each of the poles on which it is possible to support the canvas.
