Verb conjugation are the different ways in which a verb is flexed to express person, time, mood and number. That is, conjugated verbs denote a person who performs the action (person), if it is singular or plural (number), in what time the action was performed (time) and with what intention the verb was enunciated (mode).
- For example the verb crashed It is conjugated in the third person singular, in the past tense and indicative mood. And by changing the form of the verb (crash, crash, crash) change the categories that are expressed.
Person and grammatical number
The person is the entity that performs the verbal action, while the number informs us if said entity is singular or plural. In conjugation, the verb expresses these two categories in accordance with the subject:
- For example: “Sandra have many debts in the bank ”: the verb expresses the third person singular (her).
The grammatical persons and numbers are:
- 1st p. singular: me
- 2nd p. singular: you you
- 3rd p. singular: he she
- 1st p. singular: we / we
- 2nd p. singular: you you
- 3rd p. singular: they / they
Verbal tense
The time is a grammatical category that is expressed in the conjugation to indicate in what moment of time this action is carried out. There are five simple tenses: present, past, future, co-past, and post-past; and five compound tenses: antepresente, antepreterito, antefuturo, antecopreterito, and antepospreterito.
