Lactose it's a disaccharide sugar available in milk. I know esteem that lactose is present in the milk of females in a proportion that oscillates between 4 and 5%.
Disaccharides are a type of carbohydrate that is formed by the union of two identical or different monosaccharide sugars from a bond, one is the glucose and the other galactose. It should be noted that lactose has a reducing power.
Human beings have in our body a enzyme, lactase, which occurs in the small intestine, and that is in charge of the satisfactory absorption of lactose. It is synthesized during the childhood of people, meanwhile, its poor development can cause problems in the future when it comes to the intake of certain products that have it. Thus, if there is an exorbitant or little presence of lactase, lactose, it will not be able to be assimilated as it should and then discomfort will be generated in the individual.
The absence of lactase is clinically referred to as intolerance lactose
. In this picture, lactose cannot be properly metabolized due to a condition in the microvilli of the intestine, which are responsible for producing lactase. Now this may be permanent, that is to say, it will never go away and it arrives in a hereditary way. Or reversible, which can be cured and is acquired from a given pathology. The most common manifestations of lactose intolerance occur immediately after consuming products dairy products or their derivatives, and among the most common are: abdominal pain, diarrhea, skin rashes, constipation.
It is worth mentioning that as the production Lactase is variable from one individual to another, the same is transferred to cases of intolerance to it. For example, in those cases where the intolerance is high, the symptoms will be more acute than in those in which the intolerance is lower.
The best way to avoid intolerance is to eat certain food or reduce the amount of intake of some of them.
