There are spheres of knowledge that are self-evident and that present objective truths. Science is, by definition, the realm of the true, in the sense that its claims are demonstrable and have a theoretical and empirical foundation. However, not everything can be known with precise and scientific criteria and, consequently, there are things that remain hidden. Thus, everything that has a secret, mysterious and hidden component can be understood within a movement general, the occult.
Occult practices and their general characteristics
There is no single way to understand the occult, since there are many currents and disciplines that make it up, such as such as sorcery, fortune telling, palmistry, divination, tarot, spiritism or witchcraft, among others many.
The different modes of occultism have some characteristics in common. In the first place, in all of them there is a secret component, that is, it is knowledge that is not accessible to the majority. On second
Secondly, in the occult there is an intimate relationship with supposed human powers of a supernatural type and, therefore, that go beyond the senses and of reason. Finally, in the occult there is a notorious presence of supposed supernatural forces that rule the world or have some capacity to alter reality. Why is there an occult boom today?
Although we live in a period in which science has weight and recognition indisputable, it must be remembered that the different forms of occultism are very popular and have many followers. Although it is not easy to provide a definitive answer to this phenomenon, it is worth the pain remember some questions that might explain the boom of the occult. First of all, science cannot give an answer to all questions, so there are many unanswered questions. definitive (on the order of the universe, our role in life, the enigma of death and a long list of questions).
Some thinkers consider that the fondness for the occult can be explained by secularization, that is, the loss of influence of religious approaches has led many people to seek alternatives in the world of the occult.
Thus, the answers of science are useful up to a point and religious dogma has lost its hegemony. This situation can create a certain existential void and to fill the void there are people who seek some kind of answer in the occult.
A concrete example can illustrate the appeal of the occult. Imagine that a person is sick and that his doctors do not find a treatment to heal you. In this situation, someone can search for some solution alternative, for example, the mysterious power of a healer who claims to have the ability to heal with his Energy (The hypothetical power of the healer is hidden and impossible to prove).
