With the popularization of the use of InternetWe have seen changes in all sectors, including commercial. The main change in this sector has been the relationship between the consumer or client, and the company that provides the product or service, and has materialized in an acronym: B2C.
The acronym B2C stands for Business to consumer, from the company (or business) to the consumer, in English, and means the direct relationship established between both entities.
In B2C, it is about doing without the intermediary, that is, that the manufacturer or integrator sells its products directly to the consumer instead of distributing them to stores.
Two paradigmatic examples of this way of doing things are Apple and Dell. Both companies currently sell directly to the consumer / customer through their respective web pages, and in the case of Apple also through its Apple Store stores, distributed throughout the world.
The adoption of a B2C model does not close the doors to complement it with a B2B model (Business to Business) traditional.
The B2B model refers to the sale through retailers, that is, the producer does not sell directly to the final consumers, but distributes to stores that are the ones that carry out the sale and certain services after-sales.
Going back to the two examples that I gave before, it is possible to find Dell and Apple computers in various large chain stores of computing Y technology, although not in all; both manufacturers put sleepers or, directly, prevent anyone from selling their products, to ensure control in the way this is done.
The adoption of a B2C model implies having the staff and resources to provide after-sales services, as well as marketing and advertising focused on the sale.
These tasks, traditionally performed by retailers, have to be assumed, in the new model, by the manufacturing company itself.
Despite the fact that, from what has been explained, the B2C model may seem something exclusively for large multinationals, the truth is that it is a of selling that has been carried out all our life, although without labeling it with these acronyms, or even realizing its meaning and importance.
Thus, for example, the markets that since ancient times have been held in towns and cities, and in which farmers and artisans have been selling their productions, suppose a perfect example of Commerce B2C.
The generalization of B2B is, in fact, much later, and we owe it largely to the industrial Revolution, which allowed the creation of highly automated factories that produced a large quantity of goods of consumption to great velocity.
Information and communication technologies, especially the Internet and shops on-line They have been the last revolution in commerce, also in B2C.
Thanks to this, any individual can sell, having it well planned (in terms of transport and costs) anywhere in the world, thanks to the global showcase of having a store in Internet.
