Through the term infrasound it designates that sound wave characterized by having a frequency lower than that which is capable of perceive the human ear, being approximately 20 Hz.
Infrasound is an advantage enjoyed by many animals, especially the larger ones, such is the case of the elephants, what use it to communicate over long distances. The ability to hear at great distances is plausible thanks to the significant size of their heads and the separation that their ears present, this being directly proportional to the frequency that they are capable of capture. It should be noted that elephants even manage to capture infrasound by perceiving the vibrations that they produce themselves with the movements of their legs, because their nails act as conductive sensors of the sounds that present low frequency.
