The concept of stigma is one that can be found both religiously and socially or sociologically. Be that as it may, the notion of stigma is always related to the idea of marks or traces that are present or on the skin or physical of the person as well as on his soul, in his emotionality, etc. Stigma is nothing more than a brand or symbol that is imprinted on the person and that marks their existence.
The word stigma is used to designate those signs or footprints that mark a person in different ways. The term can be used in the religious sphere when referring to people who in a way inexplicable show marks of different types on the body, without being able to explain where they come from or what cause. These stigmata can be related to saints, characters divine or malefic and usually their presence means suffering or pain for those who carry them. This is the most concrete version and practice of the word stigma.
At the same time, the term has a metaphorical meaning, which is one that is used to refer to brands or signs applied at a social level on some individuals. These types of stigmas are not necessarily visible or physical but are manifested through acts such as social segmentation,
discrimination, ethnic separation, etc. Social stigmas are those that classify or categorize people according to elements such as ethnicity, religion, ideologypolitics, nationality, sex, etc. All these questions, which make the identity of the person, are used for evil as stigmas that mark differences and that establish diverse categories of individuals. Understood in this way, the concept of stigma has been used at different times in history with more than negative and deeply discriminatory results. Themes in Stigma
