A slide is basically a sloping ramp meant to be launched down it. This type of device is aimed at children's entertainment, since the little ones slide across the surface of the slide from an elevated position and during the course reach a velocity which is stimulating and fun.
In urban playgrounds, in swimming pools and in the snow
The slide is a typical recreational element of most playgrounds, especially those located in the entertainment areas of cities. Normally this contraption is made of some type of plastic, wood or metal that allows a proper glide. The dimensions of the slides are important and, as a general rule, the smallest ones are aimed at the kids More smalls. In some parks there are so-called extreme slides, whose main characteristic is the high speed that is reached.
In water parks, slides have become the main attraction. Going for one of them is a experience exciting, since in addition to the speed, the curves and the movement reciprocating, at the end of the slide one hits the water in the pool. To make them more attractive, it is usual that they receive some suggestive name, such as the whirlwind, the lightning or the kamikaze.
This form of entertainment also occurs in the snow. In fact, some slippery slopes on which sleds are launched are known as slides.
The etymological and historical origin
The word toboggan comes from the English word toboggan which, in turn, comes from the French tabagagne. However, its authentic remote origin is neither English nor French, but from the language Micmac speaking a native Canadian tribe with the same name. The Micmac had a habit of hurling themselves down natural snow-covered ramps. East habit It was imitated by the French and English colonizers settled in Canada and the idea of the natural ramp was adapted to the device that we know today as a slide.
The slide effect
In certain situations there is an intense and variable speed change and when this happens we speak of the "slide effect". This effect may refer to a sudden change in temperature, to variations in the market stock exchange or to any other circumstance in which there is a sudden and sudden alteration.
In this sense, the effect produced by a slide serves as a metaphor to illustrate other realities and activities.
