In recent years, the appearance of new technologies has caused some changes in the position of the body. When the posture of the head leans forward due to the use of a device, the neck can end up suffering from some pathology. This phenomenon is known as "text neck", which literally means "neck of text".
This name is due to the fact that the neck leans because of the action of reading or to write a text, for example to write a wathsapp message or to consult information on a tablet.
Text neck syndrome is a technological disease
The symptoms of this pathology are the following: stiffness in the neck and shoulder joints, headache and back pain. These symptoms are the consequence logic for holding a bowed posture for too long. This ailment is considered as a disease of the digital age.
The cervical area is especially sensitive
The incorrect position of the neck generates stiffness and tension in the cervical area and in the vertebrae. To reduce the effects of text neck syndrome, physiotherapists recommend exercises for stretching to eliminate tension in the area, as well as exercises for rotation and relaxation of the neck. Sometimes self-massage may be recommended.
In relation to the text neck, it must be taken into account that if the neck is flexed to consult a device produces increased pressure on the vertebrae, which can become a problem chronic. From a medical point of view, to prevent this type of problem, it is recommended to take care of postural hygiene.
Other pathologies related to new technologies
There are other ailments and health problems that originate in the revolution technological. Many adolescents have insomnia problems because their brain does not disconnect from technology. The most common vision problems are eye strain, dry eyes, and eyestrain. The abuse of the thumbs can affect the mobility of the hand and cause joint stress.
To the margin of anatomical and functional pathologies, there are also addictions, such as the syndrome of the imaginary call or addiction to Internet. These disorders can lead to others, such as problems with communication, from self-esteem or of social isolation.
