Maps are fundamental tools for human beings when it comes to locating ourselves geographically since they offer us a representation of the planet land on a flat surface, and they are also so when identifying in the territories that make up the surface of the earth various particularities.
Meanwhile, in the special case of the topographic map, it brings us closer to a representation of the earth's surface through curves of level that are intended to show us in a concrete and highly visible way the variations that exist on earth in terms of relief. In these maps, the level of detail at large stands out. scale relief, and as we said, contour lines are the resource used and the one that best allows the manifestation with sum precision.
Main variables that represent graphically
Also, this type of map identifies other variables such as vegetation, hydrography, soils, localities, buildings carried out by human beings, such is the case of bridges, dams, roads, plantations and power lines, among other
They are capable of representing very large areas of territories, countries, regions, provinces and localities, as we have already pointed out.
The contour lines that consist of lines drawn on a map and that join all the points they have the same terrain and altitude conditions allow us to reliably reflect the shape it has the land surface.
To make identification and recognition understandable and easy, use colors and symbols that will have the mission of indicating the presence of mountains, mountain ranges, valleys, rivers, among others accidents typical geographical areas. Meanwhile, the map legend indicates the references of each symbol and color.
Applications
At present there are many disciplines that make use of these maps since the information they provide is very useful for the tasks they carry out, among them we can mention the architecture, earth sciences, mining, of course the geography, recreational activities widely practiced today such as hiking and mountaineering, and also any activity that requires an exhaustive knowledge of the terrain, which is precisely what these maps address when detail.
