Mechatronics engineering is based on integration from various areas, especially the computing, mechanics, electronics and robotics. Therefore, the studies of this discipline They are multidisciplinary in nature.
From a historical perspective, mechatronics must be understood as one of the most recent episodes of the industrial Revolution which began at the end of the 18th century with the appearance of machines that replaced traditional manual processes.
What does a mechatronic engineer do?
This professional is normally dedicated to the design of gadgets that involve control systems for smart products. His activity is oriented towards the mechanical industry to facilitate human activities through machines for different transformation processes.
From an academic point of view, some of the areas studied are the following: differential calculus, electronic circuit analysis, electromagnetism, static and dynamics, among other disciplines. This type of knowledge allows the design of all kinds of machines and gadgets.
Regarding the market of action, the following should be highlighted: manufacture flexible, industrial processes, the field of robotics, automated equipment, departments of investigation on new products, etc.
Aspects of interest
From a historical point of view, mechatronics emerged in the 1980s in Japan, specifically in the robotics sector.
In the automotive sector it is necessary to combine mechanical, electronic and software issues.
In the field of physical disability, mechatronic engineers design structures so that people without mobility can move (exoskeletons are a good example of the immense possibilities of this area of the engineering).
The robot revolution
Mechatronics as a discipline is directly related to the so-called "robot revolution". Nowadays, some robots perform functions that have traditionally been performed by human beings. There are already artificial beings waiters, assistants of the elderly, as well as sex robots, military, in the sector of the safety or intended for leisure and entertainment. In this sense, it is foreseeable that in the near future all kinds of robots will become characters of everyday life.
With regard to robotics, there are two possible approaches:
1) who consider that this technological advance is unstoppable and, therefore, it is necessary for humanity as a whole to adapt to the new reality and
2) who argue that the robot as a substitute for humans is a threat for many people who will not be able to access a work activity because they cannot compete with the efficiency of a robot.
