We understand by mate that drink hot that it is customary to take in some parts of Latin America (especially in countries like Argentina and Uruguay) made on the basis of yerba mate. We could say that mate is a very complex phenomenon that goes beyond the drink itself and that also involves the generation of a social situation shared by several people at the same time.

The mate is prepared with yerba mate. This is placed in a container that is usually made of dried pumpkin, wood or metal and that also bears the name of mate. Yerba can be flavored with different elements such as sugar, sweetener, orange or other citrus peels, cinnamon, etc. However, the followers of this drink maintain that the true mate is the one that is taken natural or bitter. This herb is heated with Water which should not be at boiling point (because otherwise the yerba would burn) and after standing a few seconds drink the water flavored by the bulb previously placed in the container with Herb.

Mate is a non-caloric infusion, with a high proportion of caffeine and with diuretic effects. However, one of the things that makes it more popular among different social and age groups is the possibility that gives its consumers to share it with companions and enjoy it for a long time little while. Unlike coffee or tea, mate can continue to be consumed for hours, depending on the amount of water you have. At the same time, the mate passes from hand to hand, making a round and taking advantage of the presence of this drink to enjoy a moment in company with others. Obviously, enjoying a mate with friends or acquaintances implies a certain level of confidence and knowledge among the individuals who share it.
