The simple past perfect it's a verbal tense that expresses an action from the past that has already ended and its completion is perceived prior to the moment of speech. For example: Yesterday They were to the movies. / Read all the books.
It differs from the compound past perfect since in the latter the consequences of the action are linked to the present or are facts that have just been verified at the moment of speaking. For example: This year I've gone to the Capital on several occasions.
