Chigualos and Lullabies
The chigualos are compositions in verse (rounds and verses) from Manabí (Ecuador) that are sung between December 24 and the first days of February, in honor of the Niño Dios.
In some Manabi localities, chigualo festivals are organized, where they sing as a Christmas carol, while sweets are distributed to the children and small nativity scenes are built.
It is also called "chigualo" or "lullaby" to the ceremony of vigil for young children in Colombia. The verses that are dedicated to children. There may be an instrumental accompaniment with the chonta marimba, the cununos, the bass drum, the snare drum and the guasás.
