Example of Continuing Sentences

The continuous sentences they are subordinate clauses. It is connected to the main sentence by a continuous conjunction.

A continuous conjunction is one that joins two ideas or sentences, making a link or a relationship between the ideas of continuity, where that continuity can be of a logical type, of time, or of consequence. The consequent links can be simple or compound.

Simple or compound continuous links are used, such as:

• While
• Well
• In order to
• So
• A) Yes

And in the same way, sentences are followed with expressions such as:

• And then
• So
• However
• Above all

With which it is related giving continuity to the sentence, either logically, or consequently, between both parts of the continuous sentence.

With which a sentence is continued, as we can see in the following examples:

We were cutting radishes, for tomorrow's stew. (Where the simple interjection in order to, is the one that makes the sentence continuous.).

He ran to the cabin terrified by what he saw in the woods, but when he arrived she realized that what he saw was not to be feared. (Where the compound interjection

However, is the one that follows the sentence).

Examples of continuous sentences:

• They spent a lot of money, especially buying the clothes.
• They are grounded, so they won't watch TV.
• They heard a horrible noise, and then, the monster appeared in front of them.
• They escaped, while the knight fought with the beast.
• They all escaped, while one of them distracted the guard.
• They got tired going up, because the stairs were very long.
• They did a good job, so they got promoted for it.
• Juan hit his classmate, so she accused him with the teacher.
• They fought for their freedom, because they were fed up with the oppression in which they lived.
• They walked through the desert for several days, and then they reached the city.
• The executioner punished the criminals, especially the one who had murdered the baker's wife.
• They found out that the milkman adulterated the milk with water, so they fined him for it.
• When the shooting started, they all ran like hares.
• The budget money ran out, now, we must think about how to pay the salaries of the employees.
