The esdrújulas words are those whose stressed syllable is the penultimate. We call stressed syllable to the strongest syllable within the word. The words esdrújulas always carry an accent. For example: brocoli, platanos.
The other types of words, according to their stress, are the sharp (stressed on the last syllable), serious (stressed on the second to last syllable) and sobreesdrújulas (stressed on the syllable before the penultimate).
