Discourse resources

The discursive resources are forms or procedures used to organize texts. They can be presented in almost all types of texts: narrative, expository, etc., although their use is more frequent in argumentative texts.

The combination of the different discursive resources will result in a writing style or way of speaking that will depend on its purpose.

Types of discursive resources

Examples of discursive resources

Argumentative discursive resource:

• Human intelligence is the ability to adapt to the surrounding and changing environment that forces the subject to must at all times plan, evaluate, measure and regulate their actions based on the appropriate adaptation for their survival.

Discourse resource by analogy.

• The human being is a social being. This means that he can only coexist in society. Being a social being, the human being needs intelligence and its practical use for survival. Without intelligence, human beings cannot adapt to the environment. In other words: practical intelligence is to human beings as air is to all living beings.

Discursive resource for quotes.

• In relation to this topic, there are many theories and concepts of intelligence. According to Anastasi: “intelligent behavior is essentially adaptive. Insofar as it satisfies the demands of the environment. This behavior varies according to each species and according to the context in which each subject lives ”.

Discursive resource by cumulative enumeration.

An animal, for example, uses his practical intelligence when he must hunt. Then the animal must:

• Find the prey
• Be patient
• Attack at the right time
• Anticipate in case of unforeseen events (certain animals can foresee some changes and others cannot. This will depend on the evolutionary degree of each animal).
• Plan the precise body point to attack. Many animals know that, by biting the legs or the neck area, their prey will die.
