The tonic words are the words that they have a prosodic accent, which is represented in some words by means of a graphic accent (´). The accent is the greater strength or enhancement with which one syllable is pronounced with respect to the rest of the syllables. One of the syllables of the tonic word will be enunciated with greater relief:
This syllable on which the accent of a word falls is called stressed syllable; the other syllables that lack an accent are called unstressed syllables.
