Positive and Negative Qualifying Adjectives
A adjective is a word that determines or characterizes a noun. The adjectives, for their part, qualify or provide information on the qualities of nouns.
These adjectives can be classified in several ways: one of them is the distinction between positive and negative qualifying adjectives.
The importance of context
Many times it is essential to understand the context in which adjectives are used to identify whether they are used as positive or negative. For example: Today I will release my shirt new. / The receptionist does not know anything, it must be new.
In the first case, the adjective (new) provides positive information regarding the noun it accompanies (t-shirt). However, in the second case, the same adjective (new) is used in a disqualifying way in relation to the noun (receptionist).
