The cataphor it is an element of speech that anticipates what will be said next. For example: For its part, Daniel did not answer. The pronoun "his" is referring to something that has not yet been said ("Daniel").
It is one of the procedures of textual cohesion, that is, the forms we choose so that a discourse can be perceived as a unit and repetitions are avoided.
A procedure similar to the cataphor but with the opposite sense is the anaphora, which is the use of a term to replace another that has already been used.
Anaphoras and cataphoras can be pronouns, adverbs or sets of words, and are used both in the written language as in oral.
In the following examples, the cataphor is in bold and the information that represents is underlined.
