Virgil begins The Aeneid with an invocation to the muse of poetry, where he points out the theme of his work and asks for divine help to inspire him.
They anticipate the decisive role that Aeneas had in the founding of Rome and the influence of the gods in the success of his mission,
Due to a prophecy that said that from the Trojans a race would be born that would destroy Carthage and dominate the entire world, Juno asks Aeolus (king of the winds), to sink the ships in which Aeneas and his followers were traveling, with a strong storm.
When Neptune (god of the sea) finds out, he makes the waters and seas calm, and Aeneas and his followers can reach a quiet cove on the African coast.
Venus claims to Jupiter why she allows her son to be persecuted in such a way, and he tells her that Aeneas will be welcomed to Carthage and at the same time reveals the future to the goddess.
When Aeneas arrives in Carthage, he meets Dido and Venus, for fear that something will happen to Aeneas, he makes these two fall in love, and Dido asks Aeneas to tell her about the fall of Troy and her wanderings during the seven years that he has lived wandering through lands and seas. Aeneas narrates it to him, expressing the love he feels for his father Anchises. his wife and his son. He tells her that they were attacked by the harpies and the Cyclops, and the death of his father in Drépamo.
When Jupiter realizes the love that these two feel, he sends Mercury to order Aeneas that he must fulfill his destiny and set sail for Italy.
When Dido found out about this and when he saw that Aeneas is no longer there, he orders a pyre to be raised to burn all the objects of his beloved and over her the heart with the sword of Aeneas, launching terrible curses against Aeneas and his people, which will have as its meaning the bloody fights between Rome and Carthage.
Aeneas, eager to see his father goes to hell, passing through the place where they are "those who he consumed in life the cruel love ", Aeneas recognizes God and with tears begs his forgiveness, but the proud queen is silent and walks away outraged.
After a long time he arrives at the Champs Elysees, where Anchises is located and he predicts to Aeneas the wars he will have to fight and the victories he will win upon his return to Italy.
Upon returning from the Champs Elysees, they disembark in Lazio, the place where the Latin king rules, he offers Aeneas his daughter Lavinia in marriage. Seeing Juno thwarted his plans, he promotes hatred against the Trojans. Turn declares war on them and Aeneas seeks an alliance with Evandro and his son Palante, as well as the Etruscan army. Worried Venus asks Vulcan to make weapons for Aeneas and he makes her a shield containing images of the future.
In the war, Turnus kills Palante and seizes the remains of him, before this the anger of Aeneas is ignited and he goes in search of Turnus, but he is saved by Juno.
Before the disappearance of Turnus, the war calms down, and he is thinking of declaring peace, but at the moment in which the enemy advance interrupts the junta, he decides to take up arms.
