A primitive noun it's a noun from which other derived nouns can be formed. The primitives are made up of a lexeme basic, and do not contain prefixes or suffixes. For example: bread (primitive noun), baker, bakery, bakery, bread basket (derived nouns).
Through primitive nouns and their derivatives can be formed word families or lexical families. Primitive nouns serve as the basis for the constitution of other words (whether or not they are nouns) related to the first one, but which modify its meaning.
The derived nouns, then, are those that take a primitive noun and add morphemes to it to modify the meaning of the primitive noun, generating a derived noun. For example: sand, sandpit.
