Example of Final Proposals
Spanish Classes / / July 04, 2021
A proposition refers to a phrase or syntactic construction that depends on some other part of the sentence. Not being independent, it requires a link that unites it to the main sentence.
The final propositions express the purpose or intention of what is said in the main sentence; that is, they inform us why the action was carried out. For example:
- "I came to the bank branch to pay what I owe”: The final proposition to pay what I owe indicates the purpose (to pay) for which the main action is performed (go to the bank).
- "I will fix these packages so you can put them in the mail”: The proposition expresses the ultimate goal (put them in the mail) of the assertion of the main sentence (fix these packages)
- “They reimbursed us the money so that we would be satisfied”: The main sentence informs us of something (reimburse) that is done with an intention (that we were satisfied)
How are final propositions structured?
From the above examples, we can summarize the structure of the final propositions as follows:
- Main sentence + final link + final proposition
- “They gave us the instructions (or. principal) so that (nexus) we fill out the form (conditional proposition)”
The final links that introduce this type of proposition can be the following conjunctions and phrases:
- In order to: "We will clean the house to receive the guests"," My dogs bark to ask me to take them out for a walk”.
- So that: "I'll let you know in advance of the party so you can join us", "Tell the truth so that it does not consume you inside”.
- In order to: “We fill out a complaint form so that they could solve something for us"," We put music for meditation in order to relax us to sleep”.
- With the objective of: “They installed several machines in order to have a home gym”, “In order to improve the quality of the vegetables, they placed worm humus ”.
- In order that: "She gave him some roses in order for her to fall in love with him"," They promised many things in the campaign in order that they vote for them”.
