Figurative syntax refers to figures of construction. Is about syntactic alterations that do not produce semantic changes and are: hyperbaton, ellipsis, pleonasm, silepsis and translation.
The hyperbeton Consists of the inversion of words, without losing the clarity and meaning of communication.
Hyperbaton example:
Every nine years nine men enter the house so that I can free them from all evil.
a) In order for me to free them from all evil, every nine years nine men enter the house
b) In order for me to free them from all evil, nine men enter the house every nine years.
c) Nine men, for me to free them from all evil, enter the house every nine years.
The Ellipse Consists of the omission of words syntactically necessary, but they do not interfere with the fluency of the statement.
Ellipsis example:
JoaquĆn studies writing; Vicente, communication.
In the second statement of the example, the word study; however, the meaning of the statement was not lost.
The pleonasm consists of the use of unnecessary words,
from the syntactic point of view, but they serve to give greater strength and color to the statement.Example of pleonasm:
I did it with my own hands.
I saw it with my own eyes.
The silepsis is the Fhigh agreement syntactic, which does not alter the meaning of the message.
Silepsis example:
His holiness this sick
Female Male
The translation consists of the use of a different verb tense to which it corresponds in the statement.
Translation example:
The teacher comes to examine us next week.
(will come)
Although the meaning of the statement refers to a future action, the verb comes in present, indicates a future tense.
