The hiatus It occurs when a word has two consecutive vowels but in different syllables. It is also known as adiphong since the hiatus occurs when the diphthong is broken. For example: tor–to-lla
To understand the hiatus, the diphthong and the tripthong, it is necessary to know that the vowels are distinguished in strong or open (a, e, o) and weak or closed (i, u).
