The word "maybe", which can also be written without the final S, is a adverb indicating the possibility of something. For example: Maybe let's have more luck next time.
Because it is an adverb, morphologically it is an invariable word. Semantically, it is a doubt adverb or possibility. And, syntactically, it usually works as a peripheral modifier of the sentence like an adverb of modality.
The word “perhaps” can both precede and follow verb forms of the indicative mood (He found it yesterday maybe), but the normal thing is that, when the verb is in Subjunctive mode, put them before them (Maybe I found it).
