    Prefix sin- and sim-

    The prefixwithout- It can have two meanings, depending on its Greek or Latin origin.

    Variants: sim-

    There is a variant of the prefix sin- that shares the same meaning: the prefix sim-. For example: simpatia.

    Examples of words with the prefix sim-

    1. Symbiosis. Closeness or association of different organisms that are related for the benefit of both species.
    2. Symbol. Sign that establishes a type of identity relationship with respect to something that is abstract.
    3. Symmetry. Equality of two things in relation to its shape, size and position.
    4. Simpar. Union or intertwining of cords or hair.
    5. Sympathy. Suffix -pathy indicates disease or illness. With the prefix of nagación without- (in this case its variant sim-) indicates feeling of love or liking that one person has for another according to a type of affectionate behavior.
    6. Simplify. Do something simpler, easier or shorter.

    1. Without flavor. Feeling of disgust and regret.
    2. Without reason. That it has no reasons or that it is illogical.

    26. Sinister. Event that presents a certain evil or perversity.
    27. Unmatched. That it has another point of comparison or that it does not resemble anything else.
    28. Without number. High amount of something that cannot be quantified.
    29. Synod. Meeting of Protestant pastors to refer or discuss matters of this church.
    30. Syntagma. Term used in linguistics to designate a group of words that constitute a unit and that have a specific function within a sentence.

    (!) Exceptions

    Not all words that start with syllables without- or sim- correspond to this prefix. These are some exceptions:

    • Synagogue. Building where the Jewish religion is taught.
    • Remedy made with mustard.
    • Sinarca. Municipality of the Valencian community, in Spain.
    • Sincere. Talk to a person to tell them something honestly and with full confidence.
    • Syncope. Loss of consciousness where a momentary loss of movement of the heart and respiration due to a lack of blood supply to both the brain and the heart.
    • Synchrotron. A type of particle accelerator used to generate mutability and radioactivity.
    • Syndéresis. A person's ability to make a righteous judgment naturally.
    • Labor union. Workers' association to defend economic and labor interests.
    • It is said boneless to the tongue.
    • Sinology. Study of the language, institutions, customs and literature of China.
    • Mockingbird. Singing bird.
    • Synsoras. Distant or imprecise place.
    • Sinsorgo. Person who is informal.
    • Sinuous. Something that has curves, elbows, or undulations.
    • Sinusitis. Inflammation of the nasal cavities caused by infections.
