Imperative Statements
The imperative statements (or exhortative) are the statements that express an order, a request, an advice or a prohibition. For example: Knock on the door when you arrive.
Imperative statements provide behavioral guidelines, that is, they seek to achieve a specific reaction in the receiver: to do or stop doing something.
When an order or advice is expressed, the statement can also manifest a difference in hierarchy between the speaker and the listener. However, expressions like please, or could you give a different nuance to the statement than expressions like should or he ordered him.
