A apocope is the deletion of one or more phonemes of a word (in general, the last phoneme) and are the result of modifications of the language by the use of its speakers. The term comes from the Greek apokopé which means "cut".
They can be apococopied:
If the word loses part of its phoneme or letters at the beginning it is called aphaeresis.
If the word loses any phoneme or letter in the middle it is called syncopation.
