Exclusive Disjunction
The exclusive disjunction is a statement in which there are two options, but only one of the options can be true, because one excludes the other. For instance: Is it day or is it night.
The two propositions, that is, the two options, are coordinated with the disjunctive connector "or". One of the propositions always has to be false and the other always has to be true.
If both propositions are true, the whole statement is considered false since it cannot be day and night at the same time. But the statement will also be false if both propositions are false, because it has to be day or night, but it cannot be neither.
The exclusive disjunction is a reasoning that is used in logic, a branch of philosophy, and that is applied in different fields, such as mathematics or physics.
