The Open questions, also called free questions, are those whose answer implies a broad development. The person questioned can answer freely and has no conditions or options from which to choose. For instance: What is your opinion about our customer service center?

This form of questioning is used in field work, for market research, academic exams, opinion polls, among others.

They differ from closed questions because they offer a limited variety of answers to the questioner.

Disadvantages of open questions

• They collect very diverse data and this means that their analysis will take more time.
• They provide a large amount of information that can be difficult to interpret or be unnecessary.
• In opinion polls, they can be uncomfortable for the interviewees.
• In academic evaluations, the opinion of the evaluator affects the correction, since there is no single correct answer.
• In education, proofreading takes more time and requires students to write writing skills in addition to knowledge about a specific area.
