Spanish Classes / / November 09, 2021
On the other hand, the verbal predicate is he predicate that has as its nucleus a predicative verb; these are any verb that is not copulative (be be or seem). They are verbs that express a complete sense, an action or a process, so that have the following structure:
Sentences with verbal predicate = Subject + verbal predicate (predicative verb+ accessories: c. direct, c. indirect, c. circumstantial)
For instance:
- "You you pay many things with a credit card”: The verbal predicate has as its nucleus the predicative verb you pay, whose action falls on the direct object many things.
On the other hand, the nominal predicate (also called copulative predicate) is one that is made up of a copulative verb (be be or seem). These verbs, unlike the predicative ones, do not express a complete meaning, but rather serve as a link between the subject and an attribute, for example: “You you are very kind"," This beer is from belgium”.
Types of verbal predicate
The verbal predicate can be of four types, depending on the type of relationship established between the subject and the other members of the sentence, as well as the form of the verb.
- Active verbal predicate. It is one in which the subject (agent subject) performs the action of the predicative verb, executes it, and said action can then fall on some direct object or have a recipient (object indirect). For example: “You they changed the password” (you guys performs the action).
- Passive verbal predicate. It is the one in which the subject (taxpayer) receives the verbal action; the complement agent perform the action. For example: "The password was changed by Luis” (The password receive the action)
- Simple verbal predicate. It is the one that is made up of a single nucleus, a single conjugated verb that agrees with the subject, for example: “Tú you sing very well”(A core: do you sing)
- Compound verbal predicate. It is the one that is made up of two or more nuclei, that is, several conjugated verbs that are in agreement with the subject, the nuclei are united by means of links, for example: “You you sing and dance very well”(Two cores: you sing, you dance).
