    Syntagmas

    A syntagma It is a word or a combination of words that are organized around a nucleus and perform some syntactic function within the sentence.

    Each phrase is made up of a syntagical nucleus, which determines the type of phrase, to which other words can be added. For example: the noun phrase will have as its nucleus a noun.

    Phrase types

    Phrases are classified into:

      • Subject. The name must agree in person and number with the verb. For instance: The glass it was empty. / The glasses they were broken by the tenants themselves.
      • Direct complement. It can be substituted for lo, la, los, las and the sentence does not have a copulative verb. For instance: Kicked the red ball. / Victoria sold the table and the chairswhat was in the room.
      • Circumstantial complement. Add information about the circumstances in which the action is carried out. For instance: Last week, Pablo and I went fishing. / We had dinner at the usual place.
      • Predicative complement. It expresses a quality, property or state of the subject or of the direct object, with which it must agree in gender and number. For instance:

        They named him chairman of the commission. / Roberta came out very smiling in the photo.
      • Attribute. It can be replaced by lo and appears with copulative verbs. For instance: These are good news. / The glasses were the Salvation.
      • Attribute or predicative subjective. It can be substituted for it and is introduced by copulative verbs. For instance: The patient seems stable. / Is tired of fighting all day.
      • Predicative complement. It agrees with the nucleus of the subject or with that of the direct object. For instance: We saw the car new. / Path very happy by your side.
      • Nominal predicate. It is formed with a copulative verb + an attribute (other complements of the verb may also appear). For instance: This plate it's delicious. / The dog looks brave.
      • Verbal predicate. It is formed with a predicative verb and any complement, except the attribute. For instance: Betiana she ran out to look for them. / The hairdresser left her hair too short.
      • Attribute. It can be replaced by lo and appears with copulative verbs. For instance: the boy is so clever. / The seats are near the stage.
      • Complementcircumstantial. Describe circumstances in which the action takes place. For instance: Have left the bad memories far behind. / We have to go out earlier.
      • Complementregime. For instance: My mother doesn't believe in aliens. / It is a generalist thing to say that the rich lack empathy to the popular class.
      • Complementdirect. Only of person. For instance: The boy hugged to his mom. / Mirta led to the boys to the birthday.
      • Complementagent. Only with the preposition by. For instance: The cats were rescued by firefighters. / The crime was discovered by the researcher.
      • Complementindirect. For instance: She never told them anything to his children on the matter. / We give away to my mother a beautiful birthday cake.
      • Complementcircumstantial. It can be of time, place, mode, quantity, etc. For instance: In the worst case, I would travel at the end of the month. /We took a nap under the shade of the ombú.
