Instruments for measuring temperature are devices that are responsible for providing a reading of the physical magnitude of the temperature. They come in various forms and even for different ranges of values.
The temperature gauges are going to be used depending on the temperatures to be measured, and depending on the media in which they are going to work.
Maximum and minimum thermometer:
It is used to measure the extreme temperatures reached between two readings. It consists of a thin, U-shaped glass tube with a small amount of mercury. At one end there is a tank full of alcohol and, at the another, a tank only partially filled. As the temperature increases, the mercury goes to! tank half full and, as the temperature decreases, it goes to the other end.
Metal thermometer:
This instrument, also called a platinum resistance instrument, was invented in 1800 by Jorgensen. It is highly accurate and can be used across wide temperature limits. Years later, Abraham Louis Breguet designed the trimetallic thermometer, formed by a spring spiral, made of three strips of platinum, gold and silver, welded together, and was more effective than the metal.
Pyrometer
The Pyrometer is a device used to measure temperatures extremely high, in the range from hundreds to thousands of degrees, to which the human being cannot approach because it is dangerous. It consists of a sensor that will remotely sense infrared radiation from hot industrial equipment, and output a reading on a screen.
The Pyrometer represents one of the high temperature meters safest that exist. It is accurate enough with its infrared radiation based temperature detection method.
Thermohydrograph:
Device to measure the humidity of the environment. It is composed of a maximum and minimum thermometer, and a tank of distilled water, which, while it evaporates, the thermometer records its temperature.
Thermocouple:
The Thermocouple is a temperature meter that consists of two cables made of wires of different metals or alloys. Its design is based on the different coefficients of expansion of metals or alloys.
The metal wires are bonded so that when exposed to a higher temperature, one will expand more than the other, bending the meter to give an on-screen reading.
Dial Thermometer
The Clock-type Dial Thermometer is mounted on different industrial equipment, and provides a comfortable and practical view of the Temperature value. It usually has a thermocouple added to the industrial equipment that will turn the hand.
