Example of the use of question marks and exclamation or admiration
Spanish Classes / / November 13, 2021
Question marks (¿?) and exclamation (¡!) or admiration (also called intonation signs), are those signs that tell us when writing a text if a certain expression is interrogative or exclamatory. That is, by means of these signs we can see if the expression written and enclosed between both signs is a question, doubt, an imperative exclamation, of surprise, etc.
According to the grammatical rules of Spanish, two signs are used in a sentence, with which it is enclosed, using a sign opening and closing in the sentence, unlike for example in languages such as French or English where it is only placed one. And in the case that the sentence has any of them (those of exclamation {¡!} or the question marks {¿?}), at the end of the sentences enclosed between these signs, the period is not placed.
Through these signs we can easily identify in a text if a character asks a question, or mentions something with doubt or tells us something in a tone of surprise as in the case of a narration that is read aloud high. In particular the exclamation point
(¡!), is used for example in onomatopoeias, highlighting the intention of what is said for those who read the text.Recently as a result of the use of computer devices in which both the rush to write messages or chatting, as well as the arrangement of the media in some technological devices, it is usually used of the signs of exclamation (¡!) and interrogation (¿?), incorrectly.
