Definition of Operating System

On Computing, is called Operating system to the set of computer programs that allow a satisfactory administration of the resources holding a computer.

Also know as system software, the operating system starts working on the computer immediately after turning it on and manage hardware from the most basic levels, also allowing theinteraction with the Username.

Although the concept is highly installed at the behest of computers, it is worth noting that there are operating systems not only in computers but in reality this type of system can be found in most electronic devices that use microprocessors, such is the case of a telephone mobile or a player DVD.

Five functions considered basic are fulfilled in the operating system: resource management (this is the function that allows the user to address the hardware, including both the peripherals and the network, if any), provision of interface to users (from this the user can load programs, access files and perform other tasks on the computer),

File management (allows you to create, modify and even delete files), support and utility service (allows you to update the versions, incorporate new and more utilities, improve the safety of the system according to the needs, control the new peripherals that enter and also the correction of errors that arise in any of the software) and task management (facilitates the administration of all computer tasks carried out by the user).

There are several operating systems currently, among the most popular are, of course, Windows, the king of systems, created by Microsoft in 1981, Mac OS (operating system created by the company Manzana for your computers Macintosh), linux, AmigaOS and Unix and in cell phones the following stand out: Blackberry OS, Windows Phone, WebOS, Bada, Android and Symbian.
