The term verbiage (synonym of verbiage) is a term that is used to designate a type of attitude or tendency that some people present and that leads them to talk permanently, without stopping, without pausing almost to listen to the other, their interlocutor, even many times without controlling the things that are said and without maintaining a limit that allows interaction with others.
Tendency of someone to talk without stopping and without listening to the interlocutor, usually caused by anxiety
The main characteristic it shows is the abundance of words in the speeches, one idea engaging with another and another…, even though there is no connection between them.
It is classified by case as an excessive way of expression when expressing opinions, ideas and even feelings. The verbal person tends inadvertently to monopolize the conversation, be it a dialogue or a meeting in which several people participate.
Verbose person profile
If a study of the profile of the verbose is carried out, the main characteristic that will stand out is his anxiety, that is, he is an extremely anxious person.
On many occasions behind the verbose is an extremely shy, lonely and pessimistic person who decides to hide that reality and instead proves totally the opposite: safe, effusive and very optimistic.
There is nothing that the verbose can say, what is public and what is private tells it without problems, even if it can harm him. And one of the most serious issues is that he never takes into consideration the fact that the interlocutor can cause him problems, because of course, the latter will feel not heard and will be upset not wanting to continue to maintain a connection with the verbose.
Verbiage is usually a problem of personalities with an anxious and stressed character since in that sense, incontinence to speak (that is, the lack of limits to speak) seeks in a way to alleviate that anxiety generated by a certain situation or phenomenon. Verbiage can be a problem if it is considered as limiting when establishing social relationships solid, although in many cases it may not affect in the least and even quite the opposite, facilitate the inclusion social of the person in various social groups.
Although verbiage is understood as an unusual and uncommon condition of the use of language in the sense that it is an excessive and unlimited form of expression, it is not considers it a disease or a health problem since many times it is a response to sensations such as anxiety or stress, worry, fear, go to.
Along with many other symptoms, verbiage could be understood as a particular defense mechanism in certain situations, being one of the most common when something generates fear or anxiety, and then, many respond to this feeling by talking and talking non-stop.
An inclination that generates discomfort in the environment and isolates the person who suffers it
In this sense, many people become verbose when they have to speak in public, when their behavior is being evaluated, when it is put into danger or low threat, etc., just as other people react in the same way by completely paralyzing.
The biggest problem with verbiage is that the person usually does not stop at think in what he says if not that he does it more than anything to get out of a place of discomfort. This is why verbiage can easily stun, offend or annoy those who witness it since it is an attitude or form of communication unusual.
And another big problem is that it does not facilitate communication because in this case language is an obstacle instead of being a tool to communicate successfully.
It will be impossible to have a chat because the verbose does not listen, does not respect, or gives the space that corresponds to the other.
Talking a lot is not at all a symbol of good communication as many sometimes mistakenly believe, you can talk a lot as we come saying and not saying anything, being an empty communication because only one person talks about what he cares about and wants and leaves no room for others.
