Adverb Clauses example
English / / July 04, 2021
When we use a subordinate clause to modify a verb, an adjective or an adverb, fulfilling the functions of an adverb, we call it an adverbial sentence adverb clause.
Like adverbs, an adverb clause answers the questions How? (How?), When? (When?) Where (where?) And to what extent or degree? (To what degree or extent?). In addition, adverbial sentences give an explanation of why something happens.
When the bell rings, come into the classroom. (When? When the bell rings)
Like a monkey, Stephen was jumping over the trees. (How? Like a monkey)
Saturday, we was walking wherever was a rock, to home (Where? Wherever was a rock)
My car older than you think. (In what extent or degree? More than you think)
I am here because you said me I can come any time I wish. (Why? Because you said me I can come any time I wish)
Adverb clauses begin with a subordinate conjunction, that is, a connector that indicates the relationship between the adverbial sentence and the main sentence. This type of relationship can be one of continuity, causality, conclusive, time or adversative. Some of the most frequently used are:
