The conjunction is a word that joins two words, groups of words, phrases or ideas. Conjunction means "to unite" or "to combine".
There are three types of conjunctions. Coordinating conjunctions, correlative conjunctions, and subordinative conjunctions.
Coordinate Conjunctions They are the conjunctions that join two words or groups of words that fulfill the same function in the sentence. Coordinate conjunctions are as follows:
And (and)
But (but also)
For (for)
Nor (nor)
Gold)
Yet (yet)
Coordinate conjunctions can connect two or more nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, or prepositions. You can also connect two phrases that can constitute independent sentences by themselves. They also join two sentences used in the same sense or referring to the same subject.
The correlative conjunctions They are made up of two or more words that function as a structure. They coordinate words or phrases that can have equivalent functions in the sentence.
Either... or (or... or / either... or)
Neither… nor (neither… nor)
Both… and (both… and)
Not… but (No… but)
Not only… but also (Not only… but also)
Subordinate Conjunctions are those that serve to express the relationships in subordinate sentences. They express different relationships:
Conditionals. If (yes); unless (unless); only if (only if); whether or not (yes or no).
From cause to effect: so (like this); as (as); in order that (in attention to); because (because).
Of time: after (after); before (before); since (from); while (while); until.
Opposition: Although (however); whereas (while); though (although); even though.
