Who else, who less, we've all heard of movie theater in 3D or have we experienced it on our own skin sometime, whether in a movie theater (when there was the fashion of this type of film, coinciding with the premiere of Avatar), either in our house or in that of a friend.
3D cinema seeks to give that image relief, that third dimension that immerses us in the action. But, with one more element, the immersion would be complete, and that element is the recreation of the conditions that can be seen in the footage. That is what the 4D cinema.
4D cinema consists of the projection of a film to which special effects are added live in line with what is shown in the screen, so that viewers can feel the experiences shown on the screen in their own flesh, as if they were part of the footage.
It's probably the most immersive way to view content, as it takes you more vividly into the scene of the action.
For example, if it takes place in a Mountain, the air The room could get cold and humid, and even start the fans to start what would come to be the wind that is felt at high altitudes.
Among the effects that can be produced we have smoke, fog, movements (such as swings of a train), lights, temperatures, wind, or humidity of various types (such as rain or ambient humidity associated with fog).
In order to achieve these effects, the room must be equipped with special systems, such as cannons. water, all this being prepared before starting the film showing and synchronized with the footage, so that the experience take viewers to experience the sensations of what they are seeing on screen.
For example, him movement it can be achieved with some type of motors and guides on the seats.
Sometimes, and depending on the different types of effect (such as wind, rain, lights, ...) the movies are marked as 5D, 6D, 7D, etc, to make note of the different number of effects that we can experience and experience.
The habitat of 4D cinema tends to be amusement parks and special rooms, in which some films are shown that They tend to tend more for what is a documentary than the usual fiction films that are screened in theaters commercial.
However, we have also been able to enjoy commercial film releases, such as Nightmare Before Christmasby Tim Burton, or Spy Kids 4, by Robert Rodríguez, also in special rooms.
These rooms are small rooms, with little seating capacity, since in this way it is easier for all the spectators to properly enjoy the special effects.
Although it may seem that 4D cinema is something very modern, from the year 2000 onwards, the truth is that we can go back to 1960 to see its first predecessor that can be described as such.
It's about the film Scent of mystery, which used the Smell-o-vision system (scent vision) to synchronize certain smells in the room with what the viewers saw on the screen.
But undoubtedly the most direct precedent for 4D cinema is Captain EO, a 1986 science fiction film starring the singer Michael Jackson and that was screened in a special room at the Epcot amusement park, in the United States.
It has been, however, from the 90s of the twentieth century when content in this system has started to be produced with some frequency.
