The writing It is a type of system of signs used to represent elements or declarations expressible in the language on a certain support. For instance: pictographic writing, cuneiform writing, alphabetic writing.
In other words, writing is a set of information preservation techniques, inscribed in a symbolic system that conventionally represents spoken language.
Like all technology, it is a human invention and its purpose is to communicate with people who do not we could reach talking, either because they are absent, far away or it is a mention for the posterity.
On the other hand, to be able to write it is necessary to learn to read, that is, to decipher what is written. In this way, writing operates as a code and therefore the importance of being taught from an early age.
The story begins precisely with the invention of writing and with the possibility of recording the events of civilization. All the previous events are part of prehistory.
Origin of writing
In the year 6000 a. C., the first writing records emerged, at the beginning of the Neolithic, considered as proto-writing for not having a direct relationship with the speech of that society, but because they are visual representations, that is, drawings, pictograms and symbols. They are the immediate antecedent of hieroglyphic, cuneiform and pictographic writing, which were used by the ancient Egyptian, Sumerian and Chinese cultures, respectively.
Instead, writing itself was invented in many places at once and at different times in remote antiquity. One such place was the Middle East, in 3500 BC. C. approximately, when the ancient Sumerians adapted a previous system of clay tokens with which goods and units of time were represented. From that operation arose the cuneiform writing: a series of inscriptions that were made on flexible clay.
Around this time, the first alphabet appeared, which was a syllabary that reflected the phonology and syntax of the Sumerian language, and was soon copied by the neighboring languages.
