The brackets([]) and the keys({}) are the orthographic signs that are used in pairs, each one spaced between words, enclosing information. For instance: There are many other [novels] of this same literary genre. / Although {would like / would like}, I could never buy it.
It is also possible to use both signs separately, in the case of square brackets, to indicate that the last words of a poetic verse do not fall on the previous line; and, in the case of keys, for the preparation of synoptic tables.
It is very common to confuse the function of parenthesis with the brackets and braces, but each has different usage.
