There are different subject types which are classified according to their presence in the sentence, according to their number of nuclei and according to the type of voice of the utterance. For example:the trees they have no leaves in winter. (“trees” is an express, simple and agent subject)
In the bimember sentences, there are two fundamental constituents; The subject and predicate. The subject is that construction whose nucleus agrees in person and number with the verb and that can be formed by:
- A noun phrase. It's a noun, a pronoun, a noun word or a construction whose head is a noun, a pronoun or a noun word. For example: Sergio lives in Madrid.
- A noun subordinate clause. It is that suboración that fulfills the same function as a noun. For example: I'm lovin 'it give me flowers.
- A relative subordinate clause without an antecedent. is that adjective suboration which, having no antecedent, functions as a noun. For example: Whoever reaches the finish line first will win the race.
In some cases, the subject refers to a being that carries out the action designated by the subject.
verb of the predicate, but, in others, it refers to an entity that experiences something, that receives an action or about which information is provided. Therefore, the only way to identify which is the word or the construction that performs the function of the subject is determine which element of the sentence agrees in person and number with the conjugated verb, that is, with the nucleus of predicate.
For example:I like it that picture. In this case, “that picture” is the subject, because “picture”, the nucleus, agrees in person (third) and number (singular) with the conjugated verb “likes”.
But if the subject nucleus becomes plural, the verb will also have to be plural. For example: I like them these flowers. In this case, "these flowers" is the subject, because "flowers", the nucleus, agrees in person (third) and number (plural) with the conjugated verb "gustan".

Subject Types
Subject types are classified according to their presence in the sentence, according to their number of nuclei and according to the voice of the sentence.
Types of subject according to their presence in the sentence
Depending on whether or not it is named in the sentence, the subject can be:
- Express. It is the one mentioned in the sentence. For example: Me I'm mexican.
- Tacit. It is the one that is not mentioned in the sentence, but that can be inferred taking into account the verbal ending or the context. For example: I'm mexican. In this case, the implied subject is “I”, because “I am” is conjugated in the first person singular.
Types of subject according to their number of nuclei
Depending on how many cores it has, the subject can be:
- Simple. It is that subject that has a single nucleus, which can be a noun, a pronoun or a noun word in singular or plural. For example: My neighbor I went to the cinema. / They They work from nine to five.
- Compound. It is that subject that has two or more nuclei. For example:Mary, Paul and Sofia They went to the cinema.(“Maria”, “Pablo” and “Sofía” are the nuclei of the subject)
Types of subject according to the voice of the statement
Depending on whether the sentence is passive or active, the subject can be:
- Agent. It is the one that is found in prayers of active voice and that refers to the entity that carries out the action designated by the verb. For example: The mechanic repaired the red car.
- Patient. It is the one that is found in prayers of passive voice and that refers to the entity that receives the action designated by the verb. For example:the red car It was repaired by the mechanic.
To take into account: In active voice sentences, the agent subject is the one who performs the action and the direct object designates that which receives it. For example: Pedro cleanthe Windows. In this case, "Pedro" is the agent subject and "the windows" is the direct object. On the other hand, in passive voice sentences, the direct object becomes the patient subject and the agent subject fulfills the function of agent plugin. For example:The Windows they were cleaned by Pedro. In this case, “the windows” is the patient subject and “for Pedro” is the agent complement.
