Importance of Asexual Reproduction
Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
Asexual reproduction refers to the moment in which a single cell is detached from an organism and this is capable of forming an individual identical to the original organism. In this type of reproduction, nuclei of sexual cells or gametes do not intervene. There is only one parent.
As we can see, according to the definition of this concept, only certain organisms are capable of doing this. He human being he is not able to do it. However, the more science and study of this type of reproduction advances, the Scientists have been much more interested in knowing what the mechanisms of its operation are and their possible Applications, in the not too distant future, in man.
Initially, this type of reproduction has been studied in depth and the first steps in its application have been in the agriculture, creating genetically modified seeds, with which they will be much more resistant to pests.
Other applications that are intended to be carried out in the future is to create clones animals. The first example we have had with Dolly the sheep. However, many scientists want to delve deeper into the possibility of cloning living organisms, something that the scientific community openly opposes due to the consequences it could have.
Even so, science is trying to use this knowledge about asexual reproduction to apply it from a medical point of view in aspects that can be much more positive and important for the life of the being human. One of these applications, and perhaps the most important, is to create clones of tissues and organs of any person from cells. This opens up an infinite number of possibilities, one of the most important applications being organ transplants.
When we have the technology and the ability to reproduce from a single cell the tissue of a human being or an organ, such as a kidney, heart, etc., we would be at the point of being able to help many people who need a transplant and that, with this technique, rejection would be completely avoided and the organ would be the same as that of the person who needed it and, above all, it would be free of any type of disease. This would mean that, surely, medication based on immunosuppressants would be unnecessary due to the perfect compatibility of the transplanted organ and the recipient's body.
The importance of asexual reproduction lies in the therapeutic applications that it can have in the medium term for the human being and the many diseases it suffers from.
