Perhaps few concepts are as diffuse and comprehensive as the diversity, understood in itself as an abstraction that refers to the abundance of differences. Indeed, variety and lack of similarity seem implicit in everything that surrounds us and in ourselves, perhaps emphasizing the importance of diversity.
In more specific terms, the ideas of diversity have been applied to different branches of human knowledge. The biological sciences are a field in which diversity is perceived in a forceful way. So, the importance of biological and ecological diversity manifests itself in the five realms of the living beings (vegetables, animals, protists, fungi and moneras) and in their multiple interactions that allow the great variety of ecosystems and biomes that make up the biosphere.
In the field of social Sciences, the application of the concept of diversity and its acceptance has been known since ancient times, but it has been spread and applied especially in the last two centuries. The cultural diversity
It is recognized today as one of the most important values of the human race. In this sense, numerous national states and different non-governmental organizations consider cultural diversity as an authentic heritage common of humanity, for which there are more and more regulations and treaties in which there is a tendency to encourage them and promote cultures minority. Similarly, the importance of linguistic diversity is noticed in the modern phenomena of the communication and the dissemination of information. Also in the field of social sciences and with greater intensity in political sciences, functional diversity It is accepted as a way of expressing the differences present between different individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities. Although for some authors it is actually an ideological distinction, this perspective of diversity is considered a real engine to enhance the possibility of an independent life for people with different abilities in various aspects of daily life.
Therefore, when referring to the diversity, there is a need to extend this idea to different areas of human activity, given the importance which results from understanding that differences are part of reality, at the same time that they seem to enrich it.
